LAN

Despite the fact that the world's had perfectly good file-sharing
and machine-locating protocols for quite some time, Microsoft decided
to re-invent the wheel for these functions in Windows. The result
is that this stuff only works between MS machines unless you install
special software on your other machines.

In this case, what you're looking for is a package called SAMBA.
Check out http://samba.anu.edu.au for more info.

If you're willing to live with a little less convenience, you can
also use good old FTP (Start->Run and then run 'ftp' on your Win95
systems).
