Thinking on same lines -
EDITOR NPCONFIG << assuming we're dealing with a network printer >>
SUSPENDSPOOL ldev;FINISH << in case something is currently active >>
wait for suspend message
STOPSPOOL ldev;OPENQ << continue to allow new spoolfiles >>
STARTSPOOL ldev << should start with new IP >>

If you’re using native network printing, simply edit the appropriate entry
in NPCONFIG.pub.sys to reflect the up address of the new target printer.
Then:
Stopspool ldevno
Startspool ldevno
When the disabled printer is ready to go again, simply edit the NPCONFIG
entry back to its original and res issue the stop/start spool commands.
