The manual states:

1557 MESSAGE SPECIFICALLY, STORE RECEIVED ERROR ! FROM THE
                         IO SYSTEM (S/R 1557)

         CAUSE     STORE experienced an unexpected I/O system error.

         ACTION   The error shown here should be reported to your HP
                        Support representative.
