I have a misbehaving DDS-2 tape drive.

1. It take an incredible long time to load.

2. After writing it also takes a terrible long
    time to dismount.

3. I've also seen it raise and lower the tape
halfway to eject and attempt to mount it
    again.

Are these symptoms of the tape drive going
bad or did it have a lobotomy in the firmware?
