Dear Listers:
I copy verbatim from the "READ BEFORE INSTALLING" section of the recently
received 5.5 PowerPatch 2 package:
...snip...
<TurboSTORE II or TurboSTORE/iX 7x24 - Special Installation Instructions
...snip...
<Users of TurboSTORE/iX II or TurboSTORE/iX 7x24 will need to install
either the SUBSYS or the <appropriate XL from the MPE/iX 5.5 Express 2
SUBSYS tape prior to July 15, 1997. Installing <the MPEJXD4 patch requires
the installation of the MPE/iX 5.5 Express 2 SUBSYS or later. <Failure to
install either the SUBSYS or the appropriate XL will remove TurboSTORE/iX
II or <TurboSTORE/iX 7x24 from your system, leaving you with F09 STORE
functionality.
<If you do not want to install the entire SUBSYS, you may install only the
appropriate XL from <the SUBSYS tape. Users of TurboSTORE II (B5151AA) will
install STORXL51 and users of <TurboSTORE/iX 7x24 will install STORXL52
using the following procedure:
< Logon as MANAGER.SYS.
< :NEWGROUP USL
< :FILE TAPE;DEV=TAPE
< :RESTORE *TAPE;STORXL5#.USL.SYS;SHOW
< :COPY STORXL51.USL.SYS,STORXL51.PUB.SYS;YES
< or
< :COPY STORXL52.USL.SYS,STORXL52.PUB.SYS;YES
A few questions come to mind:
Assuming I am a user of either TurboSTORE/iX II or 7x24,
What happens after July 15? Will the aforementioned restore and
appropriate copy procedure not correct the problem - even after July 15?
What is MPEJXD4 patch and why should I care?
What is F09 STORE functionality? Can I assume that to mean standard or
default or "vanilla" functionality?
Why am I creating the USL group, rather than UXL group? Can I assume the
files being restored are indeed XL files and therefore require no further
action other than the aforementioned restore and copy steps? If I make that
assumption, I am puzzled by the USL group.
Thanks in advance for any and all answers.
