One question: when you asked your system manager to expand a set, did it take him 2 minutes or 2 days to do it?
If it only took two minutes, then he had a tool like Adager or DBGeneral that made this easy. Rifle through his old office and see if you can find the manual for such a product. :)
If it took him two days, well, welcome back to 1978. Get out your Image manual and read about two utilities called DBUNLOAD and DBLOAD. :( As you stare in disbelief at what it is telling you, take comfort in the fact that, once you're done, all your primary chains will be neatly reorganized.
BTW, if you're on MPE/ix 5.0 or later, you might also want to check out the new dynamic capacity expansion option for detail sets. Might save you another weekend down the road.
