I'll answer these question as they relate to our site.

We do have a SW contract with HP and do patch, but are stuck on 6.5.  Our
test/development system is a 967 and our Corporate policy will not let me put
anything into production that we don't first test out on the test system.  I
have taken many beta patches in past history, but there isn't a lot to choose
from now.  Maybe, just maybe if HP were to allow 7.0 or 7.5 to be installed on
the 9x7's the beta testing would expand!  As for being unsure of patches, I have
had very few patch related problems over the past 20 years, so I feel good about
the patches HP produces.
