OK. This is good advice. What experiences with telnet performance have
listusers had? How many connections on what models, and what kind of
performance issues have users seen? BTW, my reference to 'currently in
beta' refers to our vendor's software, not telnet itself.

>First off, I didn't mean to imply that more than 5 connections would cause

>On page 8.8, the Communicator for 5.5 makes the following statement about
>Telnet/ix software vs. the DTC Telnet Access Card:

>"Although the Telnet/iX Server provides similar functionality, DTC Telnet
>Access will continue to be offered to customers with high Telnet traffic to
>minimize the load to the host HP 3000 CPU."

>Unfortunately the article doesn't explain what it means by "high Telnet

>(1) Call the HP Response Center and ask them what is a reasonable amount of
>Telnet traffic for your configuration.
>(2) Post the question to the HP3000-L listserv. Perhaps some folks out there
>that are running lots of Telnet/iX and can give you some "real-world"
>answers.
>(3) Check the web. I went to HP's Search page at
>http://www.hp.com/AccessGuide/Search.html , put in "HP3000 telnet" and got
>back several URL's, including:
>The Communicator article I mentioned above, at
>http://www.hp.com/csy/docs/ix55/cmtelnet.html
>An update to the Communicator article at
>http://www.hp.com/csy/docs/ex2b55/telnet.html Among other things, it
>announces that the max concurrent sessions for Telnet/iX has been increased
>from 250 to 2000. This may mean that performance has improved since the first
>release. Still, I would check with HP to be sure.

>Hope this will help you get the answers you need.
