Generally it is best to include the list in replies unless it is something
like a simple thank you to a particular reply.
One thing that I should point out though, is that "Off Topic" posts should
start their subject line with "OT:" (not [OT]).
This allows the List to weed out off topic posts to those who don't want to
receive them, or allows users who do receive them to deal with them
separately using their email rules.
Check out the url at the bottom of each email to see other prefixes (e.g.
ADMIN:) and to change your personal setting to include/exclude topics.

Generally speaking it is only the OT: posts that get out of hand, so it is
important to use this prefix properly.
