I don't know about the 40242P. I used to cobble my own 8 years or so ago.

The basic thing I had to remember was that 4 of the pins went to
TXA,TXB,RXA,RXB one of the pins (now I don't remember if it was 1 or 5) was
immaterial to the line driver, probably a ground. The other end wasn't
really a connector either, they terminated as 4 spade lugs that were
fastened to 4 screws on the line driver.

There used to be brand of 5 pin ATP connector that converted to an RJ-11
jack in which you could use an old fashioned phone cord that terminated in 4
spade lugs. It was convenient for this purpose.

Subject: 5-Pin DTC Ports and Line Drivers
Date: Wednesday, September 25, 1996 3:09PM

I understand that I can use 5-pin DTC ports connected to 'line drivers'.
Can I use the standard HP 5-pin to 25-pin cable (p/n 40242P), or do I
need to cobble-up one of my own?

TIA!
