Although our migration tools work on UNIX and soon windows, we have been
evaluating the AS/400. We are getting very familiar with the use of the
AS/400, what IBM now calls the iSeries, as a replacement for HP 3000's.

In short, I view it as what the HP 3000 should have evolved into. Although
the primary programming language on the platform is a souped up version of
RPG, it is a complete computer system that comes with an excellent COBOL,
block mode screens and a relational RDBMS (DB2). It has a JCL called CL,
batch job processor, print spooler and various other utilities you expect to
come with a real computer. You can even manage it with a PC graphical user
interface.

It should be a comfortable transition for a company used to having an HP
3000.

I'd rather not burden the list with details. If anyone wants to know more
please send a private e-mail.
