As another vendor, I can think of at least two reasons why he might have
said that:
1) Some people reading the question will assume that the vendor has already
been consulted and has not provided a satisfactory answer so, in
desperation, the question is being asked in an open form.
2) Doug and the company he represents, like many MPE vendors, might pride
themselves on the quality of their support and feel that the customer could
have gotten a higher quality as well as quicker answer by asking the vendor
tech support directly. I have to think that the folks at vendors such as
Adager answer customer questions even more quickly when they are approached
directly.

I think that we all realize that customers have questions and that the fact
that a customer is asking how to do something is not a negative thing. In
fact, asking the question about a product publicly is a great form of
advertising.
