Heck, whole HP3000's are cheap enough nowadays to use as backup devices. The
last Series 927, unlimited number of users, MPE/iX 6.0 machine I bought cost
us all of $200 (shipping was actually more expensive).
And that's exactly what we do. We've implemented simple MPE job scripts to do
nightly store-to-disc delta backups on our primary machines, which are then
MPE-to-MPE FTP'ed to twin HP3000's three buildings away, where they're
unpacked and restored onto the twins. This provides us with instantaneous
availablity if anything should ever happen to the primary machines and has
made the backup process unbelievably simple and reliable.
