A 50 meter wide melt hole has appeared in the snow at the summit of Mt Spurr which is about 100 kilometers west of Anchorage Alaska. (For the metrically challenged, that's a 165 foot wide hole, 60 miles west of Anchorage).

For photos, go to the Alaska Volcano Observatory site at www.avo.alaska.edu.
