FYI,
HP is recommending the new HP 5000 D640 mid-range laser printer as a replacement
for the 2680. It offers 600x600 dpi, 40 page per minute ouput, and up to
300,000 pages
per month duty cycle.
The D640 also supports PCL Level 5e, PJL, and HP-GL/2. A LAN interface via HP
JetDirect EX is available for network printing.
Lastly, the printer is considered user installable/maintainable allowing for
much better
support costs.
HP 3000 users can configure it with Term Tye 22 and a serial connection.
List price is under $15,000. Hope this helps.
As most of you know, HP plans to drop the 2680A from service
contracts in the very near future. Are any of you planning on upgrading, and
if so to what? Or, are you going to hang on to the 2680A and have
maintenance done via third party provider. Any other options come to mind?
