Thanks John. Did the ABORTIO but forgot about the DOWN. I'll remember that
next time. 

A SHOWDEV showed the device as available but you could also see the 1600 in
the DENSITY column. There were no lights on the drive at all until the reboot.

Thanks again everyone. FWIW, the session numbers were over 11K, so it probably
wasn't a bad idea to reboot anyway. (SETCOUNTER not withstanding...)
