a 989 can be connected to a (supported) disc array using fibre. (i got one). in order to do this you have to go thru <something> that converts scsi to fibre. hp has a fibre channel router but i've heard that there are other manufacturers with similar hardware.

if moving to a n-class box is really an option, i think you'd be far more pleased with the results. n-class systems support fibre channel cards -- allowing direct connectivity to a disc array. we took early delivery of our n-class box -- before fibre cards were supported -- and had to connect to our va7100 via fibre channel routers. we were very pleased with the performance gain moving from a 997 to this N box...but were really suprised when we were finally able to do direct fibre channel. we saw another notable performance improvement. so, imo, this is the better solution especially if you're envisioning staying on mpe beyond 2008. - d

Subject: [HP3000-L] Connecting a 9x9KS to a SAN ??

Has anybody any experience of attatching a 9x9KS server to a Fibre SAN?

We are looking into the possibility of connecting a 989KS server to a new 2Gb
fibre SAN. I believe that using a Fibre to SCSI switch may be a possibility.
Replacing the 989KS with an N-Class is the other option available to us so
that we can do it natively.

Many thanks in advance.
