Ron.

It depends upon what you are doing.  The only time that all
database files need to have entries in the directory is
when you are using NFA in combination with a tool like
SUPRTOOL which can access the dataset files directly, rather
than through IMAGE.  Typically you only want to access a
database using IMAGE and, as you guessed, Netbase
is smart enough to allow you to put in just the single
entry for the database root file.

If you are just doing shadowing and aren't trying to access
the Master system from a shadow system using SUPRTOOL,
these extra entries are unnecessary.
