Mike,
I have opened a WTEC call to address this. We really do not write or
support scripts but I will see what they can tell us to help you with
finding this variable. I work 8:30-3:00 est Monday-Friday. As soon as I
hear something, I will let you know.
Thank you for using HP Support.
Sandra

Sandra,

This looks great but we already have an archive method using NBSPOOL.
NBSPOOL archives our spooled print jobs by file name, date & time, SFID,
etc. What we would really like to do is find the variable that is the
equivalent to the originating print file name. Example using the rawlp4
script would be as follows:

 print command = /usr/local/samba/lib/rawlp4 %s %p %? 8; rm %s

The %? has been using the %u for the user name which is being applied to our
customized banner in the same location that we would like to place the 8
character print file name. The thought is that if we can find the print file
variable (%?) we can replace the %u with that variable. This will give us
the outcome that we are looking for which is to bannerize and archive
through NBSPOOL indexed as the print file name. Clearification: If the spool
staging area is /usr/local/samba/spool or %s =
/usr/local/samba/spool/"filename" then how can we parse just the filename
and use it as our %u with rawlp4?

Regards,
Mike O'Brien

George,
As part of you question, you had mentioned that your goal was to archive
the spool files. This is what one of the WTEC engineers suggested. This
would be placed in the smb.conf file and would require a stop and start of
SAMBA/IX. Please make a copy of your smb.conf file first before making
changes to it. They have not tested this yet and if you start having
printer problems you can then go back to the default that you had
previously.

This is what they gave me:

print command = lparchive %s %p; /usr/local/samba/lib/rawlp %s %p ; rm %s".
Where the lparchive is a script that you would create that copies the spool
file away to an archive directory. Then the rawlp would take over and print
and remove the spool job, or your script could print the job as well.

Please let me if this works for you. I look forward to your reply.
Thank you for using HP support.
