Hopefully he will continue to improve, and hopefully he won't have to wait too
long for a transplant to become available.
But there has always been a chronic organ donor shortage in the US, with the
demand almost always exceeding the supply. Jeff's situation demonstrates that
it's real people who need donor organs, not just anonymous strangers.
So why not use this moment to register as an organ donor? I don't know about
other states, but here in California this is done through the Department of
Motor Vehicles. After registering, it is essential that you also make your
wishes known to your family members.
