Jeff pretty much summarized what needs to be checked. I would add :
- What's the subnet mask on the HP e3000 and on the Cisco ?
- Does any other node on the network talk to the Cisco (i.e. can ping it and gets a valid response) ?
- Does any other node on the network talk to the e3000 ?
- Was the Cisco brought in from some other site (where it worked properly), or is it right out of the box ?
- Are the Cisco and the e3000 on the same LAN segment ? If not, what lies in between them ?
- If everything else fails, did you try to swap cables ?

Sell you Sysco on e-Bay and buy a Cisco router :-) (Sysco is a food
supply distributor in my neck of the woods, I wouldn't believe them
capable of building a router).
But seriously, they will talk quite well to each other but you don't
provide any specifics. What is the full data path from the 3000 to the
Cisco? (built-in core I/O interface? what 3000 model? AUI, BNC, or
RJ45 connectors? what cabling to the Cisco? Intervening hubs,
switches, WAN links? What Cisco model? What media/speed/duplex?
Do you have DTCs? Can you talk on a network but not a router? Did you
configure the router as a [default] gateway in NMMGR? What are the IP
addresses of the 3000 and Cisco? etc., etc.).
