You might want to give ht://Dig (poor man's Alta Vista) a try.

http://www.editcorp.com/personal/lars_appel/ for MPE/iX flavour.

I am using ht://Dig quite happily on one of our 3000s at the RC
to index three systems as well as our local LaserROM web pages.
