I've tried every which way but loose to make this work.

I've...

a) connected a null modem cable from mdp to 928 terminal
b) connected straightthru cable from mdp to 928 terminal
c) connected a null modem cable from mdp to linux box running minicom
d) connected straightthru cable from mdp to linux box running minicom

No output from the server from any of the above configurations. Rebooted server
each time, also tried various comm settings. I tried so many combinations, I
had to keep a written list to keep track of them all ;)

Both the physical 928 terminal and the minicom terminal emulator software on
linux, work fine when I connect them to other hosts, such as a sparcstation2, so
I can't say that there is anything wrong with the "terminals" or the cable

I've noticed when I boot up the g50, the status lights on the cards in the back
of the server may flash amber but after a minute or so, MOST of them end up
solid green... except... the APMUX16 port. Hmmm. The APMUX16 status LED
flashes amber a few times on boot, then goes off and stays off. If its not
solid green, is that indicative of a problem? I'd RTFM for the 1703-60022 card
if I could find a FM to R ;)

I think I may try one more thing, an A1703-60003 board with the built-in console
port. If that doesn't work... the guys at the local scrapyard might mistake
this thing for the 2001 space odyssey monolith when I dump it

Subject: Re: [HP3000-L] mux-to-console cable pinout

I have this setup on my hpux box.

MDP RS232-C Full Modem 8-port (DB25) PN=5062-3054

MDP/DDP Cable PN=A1703-63009

Serial cable PN=40242-60020 (DB25 pins 1,2,3,7) (MDP port0 to pc serial)

I believe only pins 2,3,7 (the standard? TX,RX,GND - or is that RX,TX,GND)
pin 1 doubles as a ground I think.

Works for me.
