I, too, was shocked when I was told how much the conference costs!

I know from repeated personal experience (World Science Fiction conventions)
that conferences of that size can be held for a third the cost,
albeit with no snack/lunch/dinner (and with plenty of volunteer help, and
including proceedings).

However, lower-cost conferences are typically not trying to raise
money for a group for a year's worth of operations costs.

Then again, *should* Interex be raising money this way, as opposed to
membership fees?

Here's what's happened to (early) registration prices recently:

   1993: $695
   1994: $795
   1995: $795
   1996: $795
   1997: $895

BTW, the conference cost to attendees is only the tip of the iceberg.

The cost of a vendor booth has nearly doubled over the last few years!

   1993: $1475
   1994: $1575
   1995: $2500
   1995: $2500
   1997: $2800

And, no...Allegro doesn't have a booth (and never has).
