Hello Folks @ 3000-l,

Re: POSIX: (or maybe MPE:?) ftp issue

I haven't been following your thread very closely, but have you looked
into the ftp "site" command, or "quote site"? You can use site to
send system specific FTP commands. Maybe you could use it to support
PUT or MPUT with ;REC=, when ftp'ing from your NT machine. I use it
for IBM specific commands when ftp'ing to an IBM system,
"ftp>quote site lrecl=80", to set a record length, or "lrecl", on
the mainframe side.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a fabulous idea for an enhancement, but the FTPSRVR on MPE/iX
does not do this now. I would perceive it could be implemented
similar to what IBM has done with the "site" command since this is a
feature that is beyond the RFC for FTP.

SYNTAX:

SITE BUILDPARMS ;REC=-144,,F,ASCII;DISC=204800

This Build parms would stay in force for this instance of a FTP Client
connected to the FTP/iX FTPSRVR.

I assume an interested part will contact the HP-RC and submit an
enhancement request for this functionality.

James, is BLDPARMS only read when FTP starts or when the MPUT actually
needs to build the file? Perhaps a file equation to an alternative
BLDPARMS and referenced by feeding the equation with a QUOTE...
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The BLDPARMS file is read by the FTPSRVR when it is started by INETD.
The file is not re-read. It would not be useful to file equate the
BLDPARMS file on the FTPSRVR since you could not perform this file
equate once a connection was established and of course you could not
predict which user or job was going to access the server at what time.

I hope this helps.
