Just a quick note that we have at last started our migration from our
HP3000. I'll explain another time where we're going and why; but I am
surprisingly looking forward to the challenge.

However, in the meantime I thought I would update you all on some recent
FTP issues. I last posted to this list asking if anyone had any
experience on why the HP3000 client should perform so badly when PUTTING
large files to another FTP server. (It is up to 200 slower than
writing to an internal FTP server in the same network location).

At the time, I thought it was something to do with the particular FTP
server being outside our network, but I have demonstrated that FTP'ing
between our two HP3000s is also very slow on these large files.

Richard/Robert - could network issues be affecting the FTP between the
two HP3Ks - I might try Ftp'ing from the HP3000 in hounslow to the Q
drive, which I assume is in London)

HP are looking at the problem - they have dialled into our system and
put traces on the FTP session/network traffic, but alas, have not yet
isolated the problem.

Anyway, I've also experienced my first migration problem - again an FTP
issue.

It would appear that the FTP client on the HP-UX server is case
sensitive whilst good old MPE automatically treats "OPEN 123.3.4.5" and
"open 123.3.5.6." as the same command. Oh joy !. I suppose, knowing
that HP-UX file system is case sensitive, it doesn't surprise me that
the same applies to the HP-UX implementation of the FTP client.

If, however, anyone knows of a way of making the ftp client a bit more
like the MPE ftp client, then I would be ever so grateful. (I thought
that the MPE ftp client and server were ports from HPUX anyway).
