I used to think that it was so they would not show up when you issue
SELEQ=[JOBABORT=TRUE]. Now I know that this isn't true. I just don't know *
why * it isn't true.

But if you have third-party product that likes to read your stdlists for
you, such as Nobix JobPak (and Longs does use this product, right?), it does
not like to see stdlists that contain this string.

Also, if for any reason you search or grep your stdlists for such messages,
you will not see such jobs turn up. Also, this is pretty much the normal way
to bring down Apache, so someone who does know Apache and does not know MPE
would probably be left scratching his head, wondering what is wrong with us
for aborting a perfectly good job instead of killing the process properly.
;-)

Is there an approved method to bring down SAMBA in a job? I have a command
file to kill the SAMBA pid, but last I looked, ps was not happy in batch
jobs.

My $.02,
and a bargain at half that price.

Subject: Re: 'kill'ing apache

*why* do we want to kill things like apache (and sendmail, syslog, samba)
instead
of abortjobbing (new word :-) them? i know mark's presentation said
something
about leaking semaphores but i don't see any puddles under my computer :-)

(and just what is 'ipcs' telling me???) - d
