FYI, I was able to read a classic store label on a DDS tape from 1992 using Stan Sieler's TAPEDIR program:
What's more amazing, that I was able to read the tape or that Stan's program still works?
Without listing the whole directory, here is the top part:
TAPEDIR copyright (C) 1986 Allegro Consultants, Inc. (415)369-2303. Version 22.0 (Sep 94) by Stan Sieler.
