Correct, she was National Security Advisor.  

It *is* possible she was referred to using her current title in the
present tense even though it was a past event.

That would be a minor grammatical faux pas.

That would be like saying, "In 1979, I spoke with Governor
Schwarzenegger." (Although in 1979 he was not yet a Governor, yet we all
know he is one now.)
