In the beginning, when the roomers came true about HP discontinuing MPE, I was upset like many of you. I have worked on the platform for some 15 years now. To hear that the system that I have worked on for so many years was going away, I went to my PC and poured my anger into my local email server.

After that, I sat back and watched the listserver traffic. The emails stated the same theme. That HP was the bad guy, how could they, and how can they do this to their customer base. Then I read a book, called the HP way. It made me think about what was going on. And may be what Bill and Dave might do in these times. Here is my spin on this deal. Mind you I'm no expert, just my thoughts.

HP is doing what they feel is right for their business. Right or wrong, this is HP's game plan. But now that the statement has been made, we in the user community can only ask that MPE and the 3000 be turned over to new blood. Whether this new blood comes from OpenMPE, or some new third party. It's time that MPE have a new home.

This is not the time for finger pointing or disparaging remarks. I agree this is a very emotional subject for many. It is for me, too. But we have to focus on the goal. That goal of keeping MPE alive. This is why I ask thoughs from HP who subscribe to this list, to please don't let this wonderful and powerful thing die. Lets work together, users, vendors, and HP. To put together a migration plan for the HP3000. A plan not to a different platform, but one that gives this OS a new home.

To point fingers and call people names, only shows that we are not capable of taking care of this jewel. In a sense, this should be considered our wakeup call. A call for some to step up and ask that this system be given another chance. We are not the ones in control. To anger the ones who are, gives us nothing. If we can work together, we can gain so much. Just something to think about.

Let us get EXTREME together!
