Time to throw out my throughts to the group again!

I received several replies both pro and con about whether or not I really
had to take the network down to get all the files backed up. Since there
was no consensus I decided to run a test! I did my regular off-line full
backup twice, once with the network down and once with it up, and compared
the results.

Well, it appears that all the files are backed up either way. The list of
files skipped was exactly the same in both backups. So I guess the answer
is that it doesn't matter as long as I take precautions to prevent users
from logging on during my off-line backup.

If anyone has any holes to poke into my theory I'd appreciate it!
