Ok. Here's one that has me really confused.

We are in the process of testing for conversion and the creation of the
files for the conversion. The files are variable length with COMP data
in them. The first time we sent them out for testing, the files were
stored to tape on the 3000 using the 'tar' command in the POSIX shell.
All was fine. Now, those same files were FTP'd to the 9000 and again
stored to tape using the 'tar' command. Now the software vendor claims
the  files are fixed record format.

Is this possible? The software vendor is baffled and wants to know what
we changed. The only difference is the ftp.
