We are considering outsourcing our data center to a national company with a
tier four location across town. Bandwidth from our location to the data center
would be quite substantial, using NPLS. Implementing the Windows
environment would be pretty straightforward, as most anything can be done
via Remote Desktop, and there is someone at the facility who can physically
interact with the servers when requested. I was wondering if any of you have
experience doing something like this with HP3000's (and HP9000's).
My two main areas of concern are the consoles and attached tape drives. We
should be able to set up remote console to handle the consoles. However the
tape drives do present a problem, with several solutions, each of which will
involve some investment. Option 1 would be to buy tape libraries which we
could periodically load. Option 2 would be to buy a third party backup solution
which can work across the network. Option 3 would be to use some sort of
ISCSI device to back up across the network.
If any of you have done something like this and have experiences to share, it
would be much appreciated. Any recommendations for remote backup
solutions would also be very helpful. Thanks in advance for your replies.
