Sorry for the delay in responding...

I am not familiar with IDSFORM. Is it an HP utility? I am also unfamiliar=
=20
with a mnemonic ENV for FILE CODE (is that what you meant by CODE?).

TTUTIL is the HP Utility used to configure both Terminal Types and Printers=
.=20
 To start at the end, a couple of places you might use a file with FILE=20
CODE=3D1177 (mnemonic is TTYPE) are:
  1)  HELLO ;TERM=3D
  2) NMMGR, DTS Terminal Profile screen
  3)  FILE ;ENV=3D

The TERM=3D parameter of HELLO only accepts 10 or 18. These files should b=
e=20
TT10 and TT18 in PUB.SYS. In NMMGR, you can define your own profiles by=20
specifying a file name, or use one of the defaults (10, 18 and 24 - again,=20
TT##.PUB.SYS).

A VFC file, FILE CODE=3D1178 (mnemonic is TVFC), is only needed for Printer=
s=20
 -- and only if you want to do something "special". The VFC Configuration=20
screen in TTUTIL is used to enter an initialization string, typically PCL=20
commands for an HP LaserJet printer.

Since Bruce wanted to print Landscape, he could either configure the=20
commands himself (yuck!, but sometimes necessary - especially when migratin=
g=20
from PCL3 to PCL4 to PCL5), or simply copy the VFC files from the *good*=20
system.

BTW, VFC Files have *only* initialization strings, so there is no=20
[automatic] way to reset the printer when your report has printed. If all=20
of your reports use an ENV File which has VFC commands, you wouldn't have a=
=20
problem. If, OTOH, you have some reports using VFC and some without, the=20
ones without will not print consistently.

 - Could you please amplify your response to Bruce Conrad.
 -
 - We have been creating CODE=3DENV files for years by means of
 - IDSFORM.PUB.SYS and moved them to other systems without the need to deal
 - with VFC files.

 - Bruce Conrad asks:
 -  -      I have (well, my employer does) 2 HP 3000's, a 995 and a 987. I'=
m
 - - trying to print on the 987, a file using an environment file (to
 - print
 - - landscape), something like this:
 -  -
 -  -      File Filename;Dev=3DLP;ENV=3DEnvfile.HPEnv.Sys;cctl
 -  -      Print MyFile,*Filename
 -  -
 - - This already works fine on the 995, but not on the 987.
 -  -      {I've restored the ENV file from the 995 to the 987.}
 -  -
 -  -      I didn't create the ENV file - don't know how to. Is there=20
something
 - - I'm missing to make this ENV work?
 -
 - You need the VFC (Vertical Format Control) File(s) associated with your
 - environment file(s). You can locate these using TTUTIL on the 995. Ent=
er
 - the ENV Filename, choose V[iew] for File Option, and V[FC definition] fo=
r=20
Go
 - To Form. This will bring up a screen with the VFC Filename, and its
 - definitions. Just DSCOPY the missing VFC Files to your 987.
 -
 - Alternatively, you can find all files with TYPE =3D TVFC and DSCOPY them=
..
 - These files should be in the same GROUP as your ENV files, traditionall=
y
 - PUB.SYS.
 -
 - TTUTIL is documented in: Customizing Terminal and Printer Type Files Wit=
h
 - the Workstation Configurator, Customer Order Number: 5959-2870. This
 - manual, unfortunately, is not included on LaserRom.
