As many of you know, HIPAA is a sweeping Federal law designed to protect
the privacy and security of health information of consumers. Its goal is to
improve the quality of health care by restoring trust in the health care
system among consumers, health care professionals and the related
organizations and individuals who are part of the U.S. health care industry.

HIPAA requires each Health Care organization to provide HIPAA Privacy and
Security Awareness Training to their entire workforce and maintain records
on each individual for a minimum of 6 years.

The company I represent, Pangaea Education Systems, believes the most cost
effective and efficient way to train and reinforce training in the
workplace is through an online state-of-the-art Learning Management System
(LMS). Pangaea has developed an online HIPAA Awareness Training Course
that “plugs n plays” into a SCORM compliant LMS. Pangaea’s HIPAA Awareness
Course has been recognized “as the best e-learning course they have ever
seen”, by the American Hospital Association’s e-learning division and has
been endorsed by the Healthcare Management Association. All content is
reviewed, approved and sponsored by Florida Gulf Coast University.

Two of the key components of HIPAA are:
1. All covered entities must designate an individual to be responsible for
HIPAA compliance - in essence, a privacy officer. The privacy officer must
be trained and knowledgeable regarding HIPAA and the compliance of his/her
company.
2. All employees of covered entities must be trained regarding HIPAA
compliant privacy and protection of health information. This is what we
refer to as awareness training.

Our product is an extremely cost effective solution for component 2. Large
Health Care Organizations must perform awareness training by April 14, 2003.

If you have any interest in our HIPAA awareness online course please send
me a note at [log in to unmask] and mention HP3000.
