Hello, fellow MPE-Image fans,
Both hp3000 A-Class computers, Cinderella and Cenicienta (snatched
from the jaws of death just before HP quit selling them), are up
and running. I wish I could say "quietly running" but such is not
the case
HP installed *crippled CPUs* but installed *UNcrippled fans* which,
unfortunately, make quite a racket.
Sadly, I have been forced to move these lovely machines into
a Cinderella-like environment (a dungeon, if you will) because
the UNcrippled-fan noise was driving everyone nuts. I would like
to be able to present them to polite company. This fan nuisance
is a terrible blow to my hopes.
Is there an option to substitute these high-powered fans (which
were perhaps meant for the analogous HP-UX machines that run with
uncrippled CPUs) with crippled (and hopefully quieter) fans more
in tune with the modest CPU speeds that MPE/iX is allowed? Or
does the crippling action actually generate more heat?
I hope that something will pan out and that HP will not blow hot
and cold. Hopefully, HP will send a gentle cool zephyr my way,
