  Jim,

We are currently running a 959KS and yes the system does need to be
re-booted to
reset the modem. However, I do have a workaround that we use courtesy of
HP.

Run SYSDIAG and at the prompt type in
DUI>consolan pdev=10/4/0 section=2 "23"

Not sure what the numbers mean, but I can take a stab.
pdev=10/4/0 is the path of your LANIC card
section=2 is diagnostic mode
"23" is the device (support modem)

Again, this is only a WAG......

Might want to confirm the above with HP prior to running on your system.
