$oldpass & $newpass initially were scratch areas on the disc, for
intermediate
storage or relocatable binaries, and finally the executable.  Any old
rte-er's
(and we are all old at this point) remember the load and go tracks that
were
used for the same function.  Remember to clear them occasionaly if you are
doing many compiles and link edits.  Dang, I forgot what the link editor
for MPE
was called :(.
