Howdy,

Ummm....lemme think a minute here..........

Series III in 5.5 years lost a disc controller card.
A 48 in 2.0 years - no failures
A 935 in 4 years lost two disc servo controllers.
A 947 in 2 years lost track of the 7980 tape drive once (twice?).
A 987 in 2.5 years lost 3 disc drives (2GB type) and one DDS II tape drive.
Miscellaneous printer stuff, but not a power supply one.

On the other piece of this thread.........

I used to work for an outfit that supported the local tax appraisal district.
One day got a call from someone unknown to me with a terminal problem.
In puzzlement I checked with management and found it was a ligit call.
At one point in time they had sold their own home brewed medical
package bundled with a Micro 3000 (or some such it's been over ten
years, my memory is slipping but it looked like a big tower model PC)
cartridge tape drive, some kinda internal disc drive to doctors offices.
The point is I had been working there for 2 years and never heard out
of any of 'em. When I went to the site I found the 3000 sitting in a
back storage room with a hot plate sitting on time of it. That's where
they would heat up lunch. For more than two years. I'd say the
3000 is a pretty tough hombre.

Anyhow, if some podunk outfit in south Texas could put a bundle
like that together in the mid 1980's and sell it, it would seem to me
that some enterprize (an HMO or such) should be able to do it in the
90's, if given the proper prompting from HP or whoever.
