I use a freeware item called LZW to zip up the Orbit files. The LZW file created is then FTP'ed to the target where LZW then unzipes the Orbit files from where they can be restored.

Not as elegant as using FTP directly (was never able to achieve this even wit assistance from orbit support) or the DSCOPY solution previously reported.

Dave,

With our version of Orbit, the first file in the backup is code -993 (your file FULL0000). The other ones are -995. You might want to confirm what the file codes for your version of Orbit creates, as the first one in the series might be different (LISTF @,-3).

Also, when I need to move those files around, I just use DSCOPY and specify the file code on the command:

dscopy file_name;,system_name;fcode=-993
dscopy file_name;,system_name;fcode=-995

DSCOPY works considerably faster in our environment, although I do realize that not all shops may have that software purchased/installed.

Vince

Using Orbit BPL backup,

Trying to find a solution to a problem.

When backing up to a disk drive e.g.

:listf@,2
ACCOUNT= SYS GROUP= BACKUP

FILENAME CODE ------------LOGICAL RECORD----------- ----SPACE----
SIZE TYP EOF LIMIT R/B SECTORS #X MX

FULL0000 PRIV 8192W FB 1719 131071 1 110592 57 *
FULL0001 PRIV 8192W UB 131072 131072 1 8388608 * *
FULL0002 PRIV 8192W UB 50860 50860 1 3255040 * *

how can I get these backup files transferred to another machine using ftp so I can unload them using BPL?

Tried using Vesoft to change the file code to 1, transfer the file using ftp to the other HP3000 machine, and the change the code back to code -951 (?? somebody else did it) but can not read it.

Anybody have any clue's?

Thanks
