Joe is absolutely correct about LUN usage with EMC arrays. However, one
must keep in mind that EMC arrays were far more expensive than the
VA7xxx and DS2xxx and thus were not really as widespread in the HP3000
universe or "ecosystem," so as to cause LUNs to enter the lexicon of MPE
users.

Also, and correct me if I am wrong, but the EMC arrays were usually
installed by the vendor who would also provide training on these
devices. Radically different price ranges.

I will pass the comment to the SolSymp people.

I agree that the SolSym should do a topic on VA technology for the
HP3000. There are issues with using the VA technology on older systems
that cannot take advantage of direct fiber.
I disagree that LUN technology is new for the HP3000 though. EMC has had
a foothold with many HP3000 shops dating back to 1997. I have seen many
Amisys sites use them as part of an overall SAN technology as well as
other HP3000 sites.
If HP is listening they should post an e-mail on how to get to the white
papers that were to be completed on how the technology is set up for the
HP3000 systems using direct fiber.
