It sure seems like we're seeing many advances in chip design come to
fruition in the same basic time frame:  now.

The San Jose Mercury News has an article on the latest development at

It details how a University of Texas/DuPont Photomask have found a way to

        "...create chips roughly 40 percent the size of today's
         most sophisticated microprocessors and with anywhere from
         10 to 100 times the performance."

The big deal here is that they've changed only the materials,
not the fundamental process used in creating the chips.
