You should think about purchasing an HP AutoLoader.
The product number is C1553A.  It will hold 6 Dat tapes,
and will auto-load the next tape.  These units fit in a
standard disk rack.  I was very impressed with these
units, we have purchased 2 and use them in parallel.
I think they run about 3k.
