Doug's message below raised some questions for me because we're using PCs
running Reflection for all our consoles, so I went into IOCONFIG on all
three of our machines and this is what I saw when I did an LD 20 (some
spaces removed to avoid line wrap -- I hope):
On our 928:
ioconfig:ld 20
LDEV: 20 DEVNAME: 00000020 OUTDEV: 20 MODE: JAID
ID: A1703-60003-CONSOLE-TERMINAL RSIZE: 40 DEVTYPE: TERM
PATH: 56/56.0 MPETYPE: 16 MPESUBTYPE: 0
CLASS: CONSOLE
On our 997:
ioconfig:ld 20
LDEV: 20 DEVNAME: 00000020 OUTDEV: 20 MODE: JAID
ID: HP28639-60001-CONSOLE-TERMINAL RSIZE: 40 DEVTYPE: TERM
PATH: 0/28/44.0 MPETYPE: 16 MPESUBTYPE: 0
CLASS: TERM CONSOLE
On our 989:
ioconfig:ld 20
LDEV: 20 DEVNAME: 00000020 OUTDEV: 20 MODE: JAID
ID: A2372-60003-CONSOLE-TERMINAL RSIZE: 40 DEVTYPE: TERM
PATH: 10/4/0.0 MPETYPE: 16 MPESUBTYPE: 0
CLASS: CONSOLE TERM
Questions:
1) Does it matter that all three ID's are different?
2) Is there an optimum ID to use for this kind of console emulation (e.g.
should we be using one of the CONSOLE/LAN ID's instead of using
CONSOLE-TERMINAL, or is CONSOLE/LAN for something else like the web
console interface)?
3) Is there an ID that should absolutely be avoided? (There are lots of
CONSOLE ID's listed in IODFAULT.PUB.SYS.)
4) Along the lines of Doug's post, should there be a "1" in the MPESUBTYPE
field instead of "0"?
5) Could changing this solve the problem on our 928 where an "@"
occasionally displays at the prompt for no apparent reason?
6) And what about Naomi? ;-)
Thanks,
Patrick

Au Contraire, NS/VT uses CM terminal I/O drivers to communicate with dumb
terminals and the console.
If you happen to have NS/3000 AND you are using a terminal emulator on a
PC AND the subtype 1 is sent to NS/VT, then, and only then will you have
the Native Mode terminal emulator. The HP Response Center folks kept
telling us that we just had to configure the terminal emulator correctly
(we went through a peek at memory to determine the emulator) to use NM
until it became clear that we needed NS/3000 for that function.
