While you *can* do create files by running predefined jobs through the use of
FTP and the HP3000's site command, there are limitations to what you can do
in total.

However, using these same "IP*Works" controls, you could also open up a
parallel telnet connection to the HP3000 from your VB program and do just
about anything you can imagine. You don't need a full terminal emulator to
issue an extremely complex stream of commands to the HP3000. Rather, all you
need to do is transmit a command, wait for a particular response, and then do
the next item in your (complex) script.

With this combination of telnet and FTP, you should be able to do anything,
of almost any complexity, but with very high reliability and great simplicity.
