I don't disagree with Joe's comments, however the writing has been on the
wall for some time. The requirements for the Channel Span card to install
the PB-IB and the announcement that the PB-IB would not be supported
(not-supported but it worked) on the 9x9 boxes should have provided fair
warning several OSs back. The C22xx FL disk drives (which included the
C225x FL disk arrays - which I think is one of the most reliable disk
technologies HP ever released) have been off the price list for a number of
years. HP also provided technology to allow the HP-IB connected printers to
be converted to serial connections and the tape drives to SCSI. For less
than the cost of one years maintenance most of the obsolete technology can
be upgraded to the supported technology.

Times do change and even the old HP3000s needs to be upgraded from
time-to-time. As we 3000 users demand more features, functionality and a
64-bit version or MPE/iX we need to accept the passing of some of the older
technology to make way for the new. How many of us are still running a 386
with a 40MB hard drive?
