There was a contributed program called STAN (Store Tape ANalyser) that
would print/display the contents of a store or sysdump tape including a
list of all files stored on the tape(s set) and info from each file
label. It originated in the "classic" days and someone ported it to
MPE/XL. I don't know if it was updated since then - the last copy of
the source I have is from version 6, 1-22-82 in Fortran.

You could also try a RESTORE with ;ONERR[OR]=SKIP and specify ;KEEP as
well, being sure to remove from the system the files restored that you
actually don't want. Of course you could also specify ;LOCAL into a
group and then get rid of that group afterwards.

A VSTORE with ;ONERR[OR]=SKIP and ;SHOW=[SHORT|LONG|NAMESONLY] is
probably a safer course of action.

Since this seems to be a multiple tape store, if memory serves, the
VSTORE will read the files from the tape as it can until the end of the
tape and then produce a console request for the next volume in the set.
Worth a try - good luck!

And the verdict is.. I'm an idiot..

I don't know how I missed this before, but I went back to check
the movement of the tape and saw that it wasn't moving so I
decided to try someting to see what would happen, I poped the
tape out and waited a sec and poped it back in.. Then low and
behold on console I get:

9:00/#J513/211/CLOSE ERRORDEV 13 IS PREVIOUS TO REQUESTED MEDIA
8:58/#S80/205/MOUNT MEDIA 2 FOR RESTORE ON LDEV 13
8:58/18/ LDEV #13 NOT READY

I would take it that media 2 means I'm missing part of this
backup set? I wouldn't surprise me since this was made in 2000
and their tape room is in some need of orginization...

Is there anyway to tell by a listdir how many tapes are in the
set, and which ones are actually on tape 1??

Thanks,
Gehan G.
