Apply to the postal service. The great haven of PHD's and other over
qualified professionals. Well paid secure job. Lots of fresh air and
exercise. Time to think and write the software that will change the world.
Boring job but amazingly fascinating coffee break discussions.

Sort-of serious about this. Last time I was in the
"over-qualified-unemployed" condition, I volunteered for a society "Centre
for the Non-Traditionally Unemployed" (Vancouver BC, now defunct). In other
words people with "too-much" education and experience. Our most successful
seminar by far was the one about how to get hired by Canada Post.

PS: I ended up starting my own business(es) instead. Now I have the joy of
working 12 hours a day, seven days a week, without benefits, for a boss who
does not pay me most of the time (myself).
