Lars, I was not using an account password.  Looks like that is what was
causing my problems.  When I tacked the',' to the end of a shorter than
eight character password, the connection worked.  I played a little and
it seems to connect up fine now with various combinations!!!!

Thanks for the help!!  Samba looks very promising in our environment.
