Absolutely. Most all larger data centers use power-conditioning panels to manage power coming into the room from the grid. Conditioned circuits then route from the panel to equipment in the room including large multi-system UPS systems, some with local generator support (often diesel powered). In the hospital systems and large data centers I've supported in the past we've have diesel support for up to a month of off-grid power.

Very few UPS' condition power. You have to buy one that specifically
states that it does, and then make sure it's conditioning limits are
satisfactory to your situation. Often times, you're better off having the
outlet conditioned.

"condition" power safely. If you are using a UPS system for the room, and
do not have UPS backup inside your 3000, you could take down the UPS and
thereby cut power to your 3000. Regardless of the UPS situation your
circuits should be "conditioned circuits" (sorry, can't vouch for the
validity of this technical term) to prevent the sort of frying that Brian
experienced.
